Perfume as a state of mind. Puredistance RUBIKONA
The sense of smell. The one that has the power to play with our mind and lets us dream with the eyes wide open. No wonder perfumes play such an important part in one's life. For me, at least, fragrance is like an innate prolongation of my personality. I cannot picture myself without wearing perfume. I decide what to wear most of the time depending of my state of mind and I truly believe that the fragrance I choose influences the way I feel.
As years have gone by, I have started to appreciate perfumes that speak to me, rather than crowd pleasers or fragrances that you could smell from across the street. Today, I want my perfume to be exquisite in terms of quality and also regarding the brand's philosophy and ethics. This is why Puredistance is the niche house I love the most. Their motto – ”small is beautiful” is what I believe in when it comes to perfumes.
That being said, it is no secret that I am madly, deeply in love with their creations. The most recent one, RUBIKONA, quickly found its way to my heart. According to Puredistance, RUBIKONA was made by Cécile Zarokian, in Paris. The creation of this perfume started with the word RUBIKONA that combines the deep and warm colour red of a RUBY with the timeless beauty of an ICON. Puredistance Rubikona is a deep, warming perfume with a gracious, warm heart – safely embedded in deep blue satin. Elegance in every vein, in line with the sophisticated character of Puredistance. Rubikona is ‘Chic Inside Out’.
As for me, RUBIKONA is definitely a classic. Timeless, that is for sure. Cécile Zarokian is among my favorite perfumers, as I love many of her creations. She is also the nose behind Puredistance's Sheiduna, another fragrance that I have on my wish list and hope that I will manage to buy by the end of the year. Cecile has a great talent and she somehow manages to create very warm, sensual and elegant fragrances that quickly find their way to one s heart. RUBIKONA is no exception.
On my skin, the patchouli note is the star of the show, but I would not say that RUBIKONA is just about patchouli. There are so many layers and the notes are so well blended and balanced, that I must say that to my nose, RUBIKONA could not be divided in notes and accords, because it is simply too complex.
I perceive the fragrance to be mostly earthy at the beginning, but slowly making its way into a very creamy, warm and musky base. I find it very, very seductive, regardless if it is worn by a man or a woman. The way it lingers into the air is hard to describe. RUBIKONA is the kind of perfume that has to be tried individually for one to enjoy to the fullest.
As far as I am concerned, RUBIKONA makes me think about the days long gone, the golden era, when classic Hollywood actresses were true icons and fascinated the world with their grace and beauty. In fact, I could picture Rita Hayworth wearing RUBIKONA, with her gracious smile and her coppery-red hair, so effortlessly chic. After all, as she used to say ”I have always felt that one of the secrets of real beauty is simplicity”.
